Canadian model-turned-actress Renata “Noot” Seear has been a hard girl to get on the phone over the past few days, but with good reason. She’s been busy shooting “Burial,” a short action film by Karl Ford.
“I got to shoot guns and kill about eight grown men!” gushes Seear. “I did my own stunts and I got to ride a motorcycle.” She gets especially giggly when she reiterates that the role called for her to “kill lots of men.”
Of course, playing a killer is nothing new for Seear considering that her breakout role was a vampire in the New Moon installment of the Twilight series.
"After New Moon, my whole life changed,” Seear explains, “So many doors have opened for me. It got me signed with an agency. Plus, I have my green card now, so I can work.”
It’s not like Seear was exactly struggling before her acting career took off. Prior to moving to L.A., she spent ten years in New York City, modeling for the likes of Balenciaga, Lanvin and Vera Wang.
“Modeling was more of a stepping stone for me,” says Seear. “It’s not what I want to be known for.”
Appearing in every major fashion magazine and getting hired to be the face of Giorgio Armani as well as Calvin Klein’s ck one fragrance doesn’t sound too bad, as far as stepping stones go. We should all be so lucky to consider a sexy photo shoot with Justin Timberlake for Givenchy a mere footnote to a career.
“With acting, you get given a voice. It’s so much more fun than putting on a pair of clothes for just one picture in a magazine that will end up getting thrown out. I really enjoy the freedom of acting.”
She’ll have another opportunity to enjoy that freedom when she shoots her next film, A Single Shot, a dark thriller starring William H. Macy, Juno Temple and Juliette Lewis. It also happens to shoot in her hometown of Vancouver.
“The script reminded me of No Country for Old Men,” explains Seear, “Also, it’s a great cast.”
Now there’s an understatement.
