My latest addiction? Feather hair extensions! Going in a different direction than Ke$sha, I chose a more natural influence rather than disco and sparkles. The feather extensions are not permanent and come in a diverse collection of colors and lengths. They can be put in with hair extension glue, or the way I prefer– with micro beads and clamps. An easy way to get started is to purchase a variety starter kit, or bring your feathers to a salon so a stylist can do the work for you. Feathers are distributed to salons throughout the country! Feathers can be washed, brushed, blow-dried, straightened
and curled and will last one to six months depending on much you care for them– just don’t forget they are in there!
What You'll Need:
-Feather extensions
-Micro beads
-Hair hook (or a bobby pin) and set of clamps
1. Take one of the micro links and place it
onto the hair hook. Using the hair hook, select a small section
of hair (it'll look best if it's under a layer of hair or behind the ear to hide the link) and hook the hair hook onto the hair.
2. Next, slide the micro link over the end of the hook and around the hair at the root. Once you have your micro link around a piece of hair, simply slide the tip of the feather extension into the link.
3. Using the hair extension clamp, apply gentle pressure onto the
micro link to hold the extension in place. It is important to make
sure the adhesive tip is under the link when you clamp it down. This ensures that the extension will remain in place, and single feathers won’t fall out. Once the link is clamped down firmly, trim the tip of the feather hair extension with scissors if necessary.
To remove the hair feather, simply pinch the link in the opposite
direction and it will open back up!
