Corinne Loperfido
Corinne Loperfido never says "never." With the fierceness and determination of a juggernaut staring at a world not yet seized, there are few ventures that the artist/ graphic designer/ costume designer/ up-and-coming DJ won't try...at least once. That's why her work combines everything from pen, ink and paint to digital altering and even embroidery.
Even from an unversed age, Loperfido found art through the throes of childhood boredom and turned her attention toward all pursuits creative.
“As a kid, I grew up in a really small town on in a house in the middle of nowhere, so I was left to my own devices a lot of the time and had to come up with things to keep me occupied. My mom made quilts and my dad was always fixing and building things in creative ways. As a result, I am able to think about and make art in a variety of different ways.”
Another funny little detail about Corinne? Ask her about her nickname.
"I used to do gymnastics when I was about ten and my nickname was Rubberband. I got the name because I could lay on my stomach and bring my feet up over my back and in front of my face and then walk around. "
Art plucked her from her childhood home in rural New York, and brought her to the dirty south in Austin to follow her passion and to establish her own graphic design business, incorporating her many artistic interests into different projects around town. Just before she left the Lone Star State, she put on her own art show, Not Everything Will Be Okay But Some Things Will, to a full crowd of fans and friends alike ready to enjoy the art that they may have inadvertently helped Corinne to create–so much of her inspiration is pulled from the simple beauty and awkwardness that is being human, which she never seems to run dry of subject matter. Substitute breakfast tacos and afternoon heatstroke for po’boys and the humid bay, and she's found her home.
“Recently I moved to New Orleans, where something as simple as walking to the corner store leaves with me a million ideas for things to make or new projects to start. I seek out strange things that might lead me to some kind of artistic inspiration.”
