We recruited one of our favorite DIY bloggers, Carly J. Cais of Chic Steals, to make us one of her money-saving designer-inspired projects. She came up with this super-cool maritime necklace that takes only seconds and dimes to make:
What You'll Need:
-4.5 yards of white twisted satin cord
-spray neon fabric paint
-a pack of large silver-colored jump rings (9mm+)
-a pack of silver-colored necklace ends
-2 D-rings
-lobster-claw clasp
-a surface protector
-scissors
-tape
How To Make It:
1. Cut your cord in half. (It helps to tape around the cord first and then cut to prevent unraveling.)
2. Color one of the halves with fabric spray and allow to dry. Now you have two pieces of cord: one white, and one colored.
3. Fold each piece into thirds. Loop the colored cord around the white cord. Knot one end of the colored cord around itself where the two cords are looped together. Pull the knot tight.
4. To add interest and connect the loose cords together, thread on large jumprings in an alternating pattern. Do the same for the white cord.
5. Tape and then cut all the ends of the cords so they are all the same length.
6. To make the closure, add the necklace ends, connect them using jump rings to your D-rings, and then add the lobster clasp. For a no-fuss understated closure you can also skip all the hardware, knot your cords together, and use a ribbon tie or stretchy hairband instead.
Show your sailor pride and drink up, me hearties!
