Sarah Swash and partner Toshio Yamanaka are a Cornish-Japanese duo who make easy fashion based on complex, witty illustration. Each visually-impactful print begins with one of Yamanaka's kookily-intricate drawings, which are then overlaid with hand painted color and a digitally-rendered pattern. They are like works of art and unsurprisingly, the line started as a collection of large silk scarves.
The inspiration for the prints tends to come from the natural world, but re-imagined with a twinkle in its eye; you'll see precise botanical floral and fauna interwoven with surfboards, palm trees and pineapples. For spring, the duo interpret their decidedly tropical motifs into FOAM-approved beachwear: cropped Hawaiian shirts, retro hot pants and short bustier tops.
We're gearing up for the summer Olympics with both athlete and designer profiles. Check back soon for more!
